How ships or boats that have been stranded on any part of the land are handled has never been a significant issue. If any ship or boat were stranded on any part of the land, the Police would at once interfere and keep possession until the wreck had been placed in the custody of the Marshall of the Vice Admiralty Court. During the five years I have been here, I know of no case where the services of a Receiver of wreck have been required.
The Vice-Admiralty Court of Hong Kong has full power to deal with all matters of Salvage. The question of the expediency of extending these provisions to the Colony will no doubt receive the attention of the Law Revision Committee when considering what new legislation should be introduced. For these reasons, I am of opinion that no new legislation on this subject is necessary.
